The Church 2012: The Church 2012 is a high school and college student gathering to unify and engage the Church in seeking the King and expanding His Kingdom in Oklahoma City and beyond. The gathering is March 11-14, 2012. It is the 3rd annual spring break gathering and we are gathering this generation that believes Jesus is going to change cities.
There is no greater time in Church history than now to unify under the banner of Jesus Christ and as the Church of the city. We see people from all over our city, state, and even abroad stirred within the churches to go out and be the body of Christ. Today, our inner cities are an epic place to start since it lends us an opportunity to see brokenness. A possible explanation why so many churches are taking an interest in the inner city is because people are beginning to see their own brokenness and are looking to give something rather than to get something. Our cities are full of broken lives sitting on broken streets. Join us this coming spring break as we seek Jesus who is showing us ways to be restored and to restore the hearts and streets of our city. Our prayer is that we may see Jesus high and lifted up and LORD and Savior over an entire city.
Here is what we are seeing within Oklahoma City. People being engaged/called to move into this city and others alike, serve in the city, and be equipped within the city. They are no longer just interested any more of just giving someone something to eat and drive away, or start another blanket drive simply to see the homeless person sleep on the streets, or pass out another hot dog and watch the person walk away empty, but to create a sustainable people who have gifts and talents to give back. The Church 2011 is a 4 day/3 night gathering to continuing asking God where He may be calling us to “play in His Kingdom” as the Church of the city as we together seek ways to administer true justice, show mercy and compassion to our neighbors, the widow or the fatherless, the visitors or the poor (Zechariah 7:9,10).
- Missionally Live: living together as the church of the city
- During these 4 days/3 nights we will be simply looking to live life on life together. This was the method Christ used to disciple His 12 when He said those words to them, “Follow Me”. We will share together in God’s Word, prayer, fellowship, and breaking of bread together. We can see in the early part of Acts that as the Church (ekklesia) community began to share life together, have all things in common with simplicity of heart, a prayer life, and going house to house, they began to see many signs and wonders and the LORD added to the Church daily. The Church 2011 is a gathering of those who want to be unified together through relationship.
- Practically, after this gathering, our faith is that the church begins to live life together in their neighborhoods and get to know their neighbors and meet right in their living rooms, yards, porches, parks right where they live and begin doing life together. The hope is that together, Christ will be the center of your community and the power of the gospel of Christ Jesus will transform the lives where you live. The love is Jesus in you and a love for your neighbor.
- Missionally Connect: connecting the church to the mission of the city
- Not too long after the Holy Spirit fell on the Church, things started to happen very fast. People started selling off stuff, people started serving one another, widows were having their needs met, people were getting saved, the gospel started spreading, and communities started forming. As these communities started forming, people started finding the freedom and joy in serving others. We long to see the Church engaged back to meeting each others needs within our city. The Church 2011 is a gathering of those who want to be unified together in mission.
- Practically, after this gathering, our faith is that the church begins to live missional right in their own neighborhoods and get to know their neighbors and meeting each others needs. The hope is that together, Christ will be the center of your community and the power of the gospel of Christ Jesus will transform the lives where you live. The love is Jesus in you and a love for the city.
- Missionally Equip: equipping the church for the work of the city
- Jesus seemly appears to use this word “out” a lot. He told his disciples that He was sending them “out as sheep in the midst of wolves” or “therefore, pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest”. We too, see that direction for disciples of Jesus to continue looking to be sent out. There is a dying world, and we have the good news. We are passionate about equipping the saints for the work of the ministry. If you are a believer in Christ Jesus, you qualify as a saint and have been commissioned to go make disciples. The Church 2011 is a gathering of those who want to be unified together in being sent out to the city and throughout the world.
- Practically, after this gathering, our faith is that the church begins to equip each other right in their own neighborhoods and with their neighbors as they see the needs in other cities/communities. The hope is that together, Christ will be the center of our lives and the power of the gospel of Christ Jesus will transform the lives where you live. The love is Jesus in you and a love for the world.
